Once life started taking over my gaming time (job, wife kid) and I found less and less time to play MMOs how I wanted, I found games like Diablo 3 having more and more appeal. Servers aren't up all the time though so you're basically paying for blocks of testing time, which kind of sucks.ĭiablo 3 - Yeah, not an MMO but still a great native mac game. That being said the client runs really well on Yosemite, so I imagine it's the same for Mavericks.Īlbion Online - If you're into unforgiving PvP and paying for alpha/beta access - this one has some potential. Always ended up putting it down around level 20ish or so. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent game but I just couldn't get into it despite multiple attempts. It runs much better on windows with the same hardware.ĮSO - Skyrim Online without all the Skyrim. It's not a native client but rather a cider wrap, so it's optimization is lacking. GW2 - I found the MAC client to be a bit lacking in it's utilization of graphics cards. It's a decent game, just a little dated graphics wise. It runs really great natively, I pretty much always keep it on my computer for when I feel nostalgic. LOTRO - you can pick it up on steam for mac. It's really interesting what you can do with the mechanics, but if the windows users are having lagspike issues due to the always-online problems, then you can bet your life you might run into crippling problems in the last difficulty that you literally cannot overcome due to problems beyond your control. I don't know if the port is better, I didn't test the latest iteration of the port, but yeah: the game is well worth a look, and the way the system works is several times better than Diablo 3, and a hundred times better than Torchlight 2. I got through the first two difficulties and the first act on the last difficulty before I ran into the kind of lag spikes that made leveling all but impossible because I'd die and couldn't save myself and so I pretty much ragequit. The maker was planning on redoing the whole thing from scratch and hopefully making it perform better. I played it again last year - it was pretty solid. The fanmade port got much better over time though it was still prone to tweaking out.
